Senior AI / ML Engineer (Perception & Optimization)

Wasteer provides waste-to-energy plants with real-time bunker monitoring, automated contaminant alerts, and operational guidance. Our perception systems track material streams while our optimization models assist plant and crane operations. We are hiring a Senior AI / ML Engineer in Berlin to bridge visual perception and decision models.

What you will do

• Develop and maintain real-time vision pipelines using YOLO detectors to detect contaminants and categorize waste.
• Implement techniques to measure object sizes and spatial properties from bunker camera feeds.
• Incorporate vision-language models to verify detections and derive material properties.
• Explore and build reinforcement learning and optimization algorithms to guide waste bunker mixing and feeding decisions.
• Test and monitor model performance directly against real data from operating plants.

What you bring

• Demonstrated experience in computer vision, including YOLO-based detection and image measurement.
• Working knowledge of reinforcement learning or sequential decision optimization techniques.
• Hands-on experience integrating vision LLMs into data or inference pipelines.
• Proficient Python programming skills with experience deploying models into production environments.
• Based in Berlin for our hybrid working model.

Nice to have

• Experience working with industrial sensor streams, edge devices, or camera hardware.
• Background in fast GPU inference and model optimization.
